Splinter Cell and Tom Hardy? Shut Up and Take My Money!
“I don’t think our movie will feel like a movie that came out of a video game, I think it’ll feel like a badass, Tom Hardy action movie, which is what we wanted”
That was what producer Basil Iwanyk from the upcoming Splinter Cell movie had said when asked about the project.
Yes, you heard that right. Tom Hardy is going to star in the Splinter Cell movie. And an even bigger YES, he would be playing Sam Fisher.
That that got our gears grinding. Notes were sent from the Hardy himself regarding his thoughts on the script’s initial draft, and it had been reported that he thought it to be a good one, although he did mention that it was a “little long”.
While the story surrounding the Splinter Cell movie had been kept out of the press, Iwanyk revealed that the film would not be taking heavily from the game’s backstory. He had been reported saying that this would permit them to create their own world around the game’s narrative and add more depth to the characters.
Iwanyk also discounted that the movie would be similar in tone with the other espionage stories of repute such as the Jason Borne and James Bond franchises and would not be alluding to current events. The producer adds that should Mr. Hardy, a gamer himself, give his complete approval for the role, production would start later within the year.
Good to note, Ubisoft is also in the works of producing a movie based on the Division, which would star acting veteran Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Chastain.
