Muhammad Fajri: On Setting His Place and Knowing His Worth

by Joshua Diokno

Mr. Muhammad Fajri is an artist who knows where he stands. He knows that he already has a solid footing in the 2D industry. He knows which works he is really proud of and he is well aware of his own strengths. Mind you this is not a matter of pride, as some might think. This is simply an artist who, through hard work and discipline, has carved his place in the industry. He is sure of his passion and is steadfast at upholding it.

Let’s get to know Mr. Muhammad Fajri in this short feature and find out how he broke through the 2d industry.

Xeno Creatives (XC): We understand that with just about any craft, passion takes precedence. In your case, how did it start becoming a passion? Would we be right in assuming that you consider it a “calling” as a lot of your contemporaries do?

Muhammad Fajri (MF): I’m not really sure where this started; I just followed my childhood hobby of drawing. When I was a kid I really liked to draw various monster characters.

Yes, you can call it a passion.

XC: Was there ever an art piece (digital or otherwise) or artist who served as a catalyst for your involvement in the craft? When did you get involved fully in the 2D industry?

MF: Yes, my seniors at work and also friends around me who are also pursuing this field. I started to be active in this field around 2018.

XC: Now that you’re an active part of the industry, would you say you have pegged a solid place in it?

MF: Yes I feel that.

XC: How does your day look like in production?

MF: Maybe around 16-20 hours/day

XC: What are the common challenges that a 3D artist like you encounters day-in, day-out in a project?

MF: Perhaps my most difficult challenge in this industry is to create an interesting concept and story from the work.

XC: We had the chance of seeing your works online. All of them are just really IMPRESSIVE. We think that your attention to detail and style is noteworthy and indicative of originality and a deep sense of creativity. But among your works, do you have any favorite pieces? If so, what would these be and why? Also, what would you consider your biggest or most exciting project to date?

MF: I would have to say that I really like my work entitled, “Smash With Big Tree”. I like the theme of the work. For the biggest project that I have undertaken to date, I was given the opportunity by the studio that I work for to do some of the splash art for “SMITE”.

XC: If you were to market yourself what would you highlight as your edge?

MF: Maybe my attention to detail and like the dark fantasy theme.

XC: If you weren’t a 3D artist today, what would you be working as?

MF: It’s possible to work full time as a 3d artist, it seems not because I prefer illustration, but I’m interested in studying 3d artist because I feel that if I can also master 3d it will really help me in making illustrations

XC: What is your message to other artists especially in these challenging times?

MF: Start working and never be afraid of the results, enjoy the process to keep getting better.
