Microsoft on Xbox and VR: Ready But Won’t Commit
by Joshua Diokno
It is no secret that Microsoft’s Xbox One is VR compatible. But it is quite surprising, as it was recently made known, that Microsoft’s plans on the tech was focused more on PC, not the gaming console.
In a statement, Microsoft’s general manager Dave McCarthy said that they would be concentrating on PC for the company’s VR and AR projects.
He compounded this by saying that the PC space would be a thriving venue for developers wanting to delve into VR. McCarthy furthered the company’s decision by stating that a noteworthy experience is yet to come pertaining to the tech, and that this should connect well with a wider and mainstream audience.
This probably explains why the Xbox website struck Virtual Reality Support out of their services. While this is the case, Microsoft later went public that it would still offer hi-fidelity experiences in the long-run.
With this of course, Xbox owners are assured that VR support will find its way into the console.
Xbox’s Phil Spencer is firm on the company’s aspiration, he just recognises that it will definitely take time.
On the other hand, Xbox One X launches in November at $500 in the United States.
