Making Big Steps Forward: The Art of Mr. George Siskas

by Joshua Diokno

Since his fascination with an ArtStation figure, Mr. George Siskas has been producing digital portraits of celebrities. And it has been a fascinating experience going through all his pieces through his own ArtStation account. Each is a testament to his talent and ever-developing technique. When he said, “…I’d like to think I’m making big steps forward.” when asked if he had already pegged a solid place in the 3D industry, we cannot help but agree.

It is our pleasure to bring you this interview with Mr. George Siskas to let you in on the skinny on how he charted his own path to become the digital artist he is today.

Xeno Creative (XC): We understand that with just about any craft, passion takes precedence. In your case, how did it start becoming a passion? Would we be right in assuming that you consider it a calling?

George Siskas (GS): Yes, I would consider it a calling. I’ve been drawing since a very young age so I knew I would eventually do something related to art in my life.

XC: Was there ever an art piece (digital or otherwise) or artist who served as a catalyst for your involvement in the craft? When did you get involved fully in the 3D industry?

GS: Yes! Daniel Craig’s portrait by the artist Luc Bégin. I began working in the industry 3 years ago, so I’m fairly new to the field.

XC: Now that you’re an active part of the industry, would you say you have pegged a solid place in it?

GS: Not quite yet, but I’d like to think I’m making big steps forward.

XC: How does your day look like in production?

GS: It usually looks like tons of research for reference images, getting it all together and beginning to analyze it and integrate it into the project.

XC: What are the common challenges that a 3D artist like you encounters daily in a project?

GS: The most usual challenge, I have to say, is trying to meet the deadlines.

XC: Your works online are really impressive. Your portraits truly bear great likeness to the personalities that you based them from. Do you have favorite pieces? If so, why are they your favorites? Also, what would you consider your biggest or most exciting project to date?

GS: My favorite project is an African tribal portrait I did, really enjoyed it. The most exciting was making a Ronaldinho cartoon-style model which he posted on his social accounts; that was amazing.

XC: If you were to market yourself what would you highlight as your edge?

GS: I really think (and other people too) I do my work fast!

XC: If you weren’t a 3D artist today, what would you be working as?

GS: I would probably be a painter!

XC: What is your message to other artists in these challenging times?

GS: My message would be to avoid burnouts at all costs and differentiate work and no workdays, especially if they work from home.
