Jake Gyllenhaal Enters the MCU as Spider-Man’s Villain, Mysterio
Oh how Hollywood fate sways us to different directions. At times it almost seems like a cosmic joke.
Months ago Jake Gyllenhaal has just been lined up as one of the potential actors to replace the uncertain Ben Affleck for DCEU‘s latest Batman incarnation. But now, it appears that is far from happening.
Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios had just announced that the Southpaw actor had just been cast as the Spider-Man villain, Mysterio. Quentin Beck is the man underneath the dome-shaped helmet that the villain uses to conceal his identity. Beck is a special effects expert and stuntman who had learned to use illusions to make him seem like he has superpowers. Through this, he is able to commit crimes and escape the law. He has had some practice with hypnotism and his experience as a stuntman made him skilled in hand-to-hand combat.
Jake Gyllenhaal isn’t stranger to the superhero genre. While he hasn’t been cast to any, the actor had come close to being cast as Peter Parker in the early 2000s when Tobey Maguire almost left the franchise. He was also lined up as Bruce Wayne in Nolan‘s Trilogy but was ultimately given to Bale.
With the MCU’s massive success, it seems Gyllenhaal’s entry into the Superhero genre is more than awesome timing.
