“Hook” Child Star Launches Kickstarter Campaign For Lost Boy Prequel Film
This is the era of sequels, prequels and a whole lot of reboots. Heck, we live in a world where “I Spit On Your Grave 3” exists. But this news of late might just tug at your heartstrings.
Dante Basco, the actor who played the Mohawked Lost Boy Rufio in Steven Speilberg’s 1992 fantasy flick, “Hook” is seeking to raise $30,000 to produce a short film entitled, “Bangarang”. Following the story of Rufio, the film would be a prequel to the Lost Boy; about his life as Roofus and his journey towards getting to Neverland.
The campaign had been placed by Dante Basco himself on Kickstarter with the following description:
“Roofus is a 13-year-old kid who is destined to be more than he is.
After his mother is forced to put him into a foster home, he and his rag-tag group of best friends – a Jamaican boy named Julani and a bright-eyed Latina force of nature named Ella – find a way for Roofus to escape his ill fate, find his happy thought and fulfill his destiny.”
It further states that the film is largely,
“…about believing in yourself, and not letting your past define you are. Finding your destiny and forcing it into existence.”
Basco sees that the prequel is a timely project as it may serve as a social critique on how marginalized groups become victors against their oppressors.
Open until March 14th, the project had already accumulated $5,846.00.
So what do you think? Is this a film project you would be excited to see?
