Caught In a Curious Web: Sony Pictures Says Venom Movie is Happening
The alien symbiote and nemesis to Spider-man, Venom is finally getting some love from the big screen. Stated directly by Sony Pictures, a Venom movie is planned to be released this coming October 5th, 2018, eclipsing the already widely-anticipated Jason Momoa feature, “Aquaman” which was bumped into December.
Venom’s origins in The Spider-man canon is split in two, the first one being an alien-parasite/symbiote that clung to Peter Parker and then Eddie Brock. His second iteration comes in the form of a scientific breakthrough by Peter Parker himself and Eddie Brock’s parents that was aimed at curing cancer.
News of a Venom film had been talked about in the grapevine since 2016. Only in the planning stages, the feature is said to be curiously divorced from then Andrew Garfield-led franchise. However, now that the mantle had come to new hands and a different cinematic universe, the initial plan seems to have been pulled back into square one.
It would definitely be interesting how Sony Pictures would execute another iteration of Venom when his arch nemesis is webslinging in another universe completely separate from its own.
