Xeno Creatives is proud to introduce Mr. Danny Art McMullen in this short feature.
Xeno Creatives (XC): Has producing 3D art always been a passion? How did it start for you?
Danny Art Mullen (DAM): It wasn’t until I was 32 years old that I began to study 3D seriously at the ZArt Academy run by Vijay Pratap Singh. From a very young age, I have worked in traditional methods using oils, acrylics & pencil, producing portraits, wildlife etc. However, it has always been a childhood dream to become a fantasy/Sci-Fi artist. At 30 years old, I began by studying 2D concept character design online for 2 years with Xia Taptara as my mentor at the TheArtClasses.com, prior to joining ZArt academy.
XC: What’s it like being a part of the 3D culture?
DAM: The more I learn about 3D and ZBrush, the more I discover that anything you can imagine can be brought to life–and that is extremely exciting. Seeing the works created by other artists who work in the movie and video game industry is incredibly inspiring and motivating.
XC: What or who influence you the most? Was there ever an art piece (digital or otherwise) or artist who solidified your place in the discipline?
DAM: There are many artists whom I greatly admire and have been inspired by. H.R. Giger and Boris Valagio are among the them, but there is one person who really set me on my path with 3D art and that is Vijay Pratap Singh from the ZArt academy, his help and guidance have been invaluable.
XC: Could you describe how your day looks like in production?
DAM: I study in the library for 8 hours each day and follow my online classes.
XC: What are the common challenges that a 3D artist like you encounters day-in, day-out in a project?
DAM: Trying to prevent my computer from exploding due to too many polygons or fibermesh.
XC: What would you consider your biggest or most exciting project to date?
DAM: After struggling to create the level of fantasy art I wanted, accepting that in my 30s, I needed to go back to school.
XC: If you were to market yourself what would you you highlight as your edge?
DAM: I absolutely love art and it’s all I live for. It isn’t just a job for me, it’s my lifestyle, my passion, my love.
XC: If you weren’t a 3D artist today, what would you be?
DAM: Art has been my life from my first memory and I can’t imagine doing anything else.
