A Passion for Beauty: Eunji Lee
Ms. Eunji Lee is serious with her project as a Digital Artist on producing character concepts that are highly aesthetic and ultimately highlights beauty. And we are more than thrilled to see this translated through her works online.
Some would say that mere focus on beauty is a half-baked craft, or that it looks too much into what is only on the surface. But what the naysayers are missing out on is the careful and disciplined eyes and hands that go into each work. They tend to overlook that it takes a creative mind to perceive beauty and translate it into art. This is something Ms. Eunji Lee is trained in.
So let us get to know this amazing digital artist and find out how she goes about producing beautiful character concepts that we can gawk at.
Xeno Creatives (XC): We understand that with just about any craft, passion takes precedence. In your case, how did it start becoming a passion? Would we be right in assuming that you consider it a “calling”?
Eunji Lee (EL): I was always interested with beauty, and I was satisfied with the 3D character I made and that other people felt that it was beautiful as well. It seems that such interest and satisfaction in beauty led to my passion.
XC: Was there ever an art piece (digital or otherwise) or artist who served as a catalyst for your involvement in the craft? When did you get involved fully in the 3D industry?
EL: Nothing really special served as a catalyst. After graduating from a university that offered a 3D course, I naturally became involved in the 3D industry as I did what I like doing.
XC: Now that you’re an active part of the industry, would you say you have pegged a solid place in it?
EL: No, I think it’s still not enough. As far as my goal is clear, I will continue to work to get there.
XC: What are the common challenges that a 3D artist like you encounters day-in, day-out in a project?
EL: I think the biggest challenge is to compromise between the perspective of beauty that the project art director pursues and the perspective of beauty that I pursue.
XC: We had the most fortunate chance of seeing your works online and we must say they are tremendously impressive. We really admire your style. How do you go about creating your pieces? Is there a personal “ritual” that you follow before working?
EL: First of all, I will proceed with the work that I would like. I put in elements that people will like later. People’s attention is the driving force that makes me work.
XC: Do you have favourite pieces among your works? If so, what made them your favourite?
EL: Unfortunately, none of my works have been satisfactory yet.
XC: If you were to market yourself what would you highlight as your edge?
EL: I think my edge is creating beautiful characters. It is my desire for other people to feel the standard of beauty that I think of.
XC: If you weren’t a 3D artist today, what would you be working as?
EL: I can’t think of any other job other than 3D modeling. It has always been an interesting job for me.
XC: What is your message to other artists especially in these challenging times?
EL: This moment when you can work is the moment you can develop. Always enjoy your favorite work!
