Ian McShane Cast In “Hellboy” Reboot, “Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen”

ian_mcshane_headshot_2011_a_p_3735Hollywood genre veteran, Ian McShane is reported to star in the Hellboy Reboot, “Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen”.

McShane who plays Mr. Wednesday in Starz’s “American Gods” is said to be the first announced addition for the comic book movie reboot. He will be playing Professor Trevor Bruttenholm, (Professor Broom), Hellboy’s adoptive father. In Guillermo del Toro’s iterations, Professor Broom was played by the late John Hurt.

David Harbour of “Stranger Things” fame would be taking on the horned anti-hero. Filming this September, “Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen”. would be directed by “Game of Thrones” alum, Neil Marshall with a script from Andrew Cosby, alongside Christopher Golden and Mike Mignola.

The source material follows the hell-spawn, Hellboy who was conjured by Nazi occultists by the end of the second World War. Taken under the wing of Professor Broom, Hellboy became a resident occult detective of the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense.

Despite the change in the actor as lead, this iteration of the Dark Horse comics character is rumored to have been connected to the 2004 and 2008 del Toro movies. However, after the reboot’s announcement, the suposition did not prove to stand ground.
